My love
I don’t want to hurt you
But I need to be frank
Your opinion’s offensive
Just because you don’t like something
Doesn’t mean others feel the same
And when you condemn it
You engage an aggression you don’t even see
They may not show it, may just stand their ground
Still they wish you’d understand
Wish you’d have tried to comprehend
We don’t do these things to make you uncomfortable
You forced that upon yourself
Open your mind
Take a stroll in our shoes
I hope you learn to empathize

Stop it. Enough
I’m through with your controlling fingers pushing and shoving
shaping my life
The nonchalant comments gnaw away
belittling and mocking me
A disappointed frown, encouragement with masked motives
They build up, despite your defensive ignorance
I love you and want to please you
But I’m not running a race I don’t want to win
Not climbing this mountain when I’d rather white water raft
You have your hopes, priorities, dreams
Then there’s me
I’m grabbing the steering wheel
Ignoring the back-seat driving once and for all

How do you shut up a voice
you’ve respected your entire life?
How do you ignore a part
of someone you love the most?
How do you hold yourself together and stay strong?
How do you feel good about yourself
when there’s a voice calling you lazy?
How do you stay healthy
and ignore the voice telling you to go too far?
How do you find yourself
when you can’t separate the advice from the manipulation?
How do you see eye-to-eye
when they think they deserve more because they’re older?
How do you find balance
when you’re caught in a game of tug of war?
How do you know the truth
when every sincerity has hidden motives?
Where’s the light in a dark room?
Where’s the love in an argument?

The Daydream

Often I drift away to another world
where social anxieties don’t choke me up
repelling me from people out of fear I’ll do something wrong
say something wrong
mess up
In this world, courage propels me forward
urging me from one conversation to the next
laughter and smiles surround
until one person gives me a strange look
twitches their eye
says something negative
taking me back to what is reality
my heart pounds in my chest like it’s trying to escape
tears pool in my eyes
I feel the hot, thick sweat slowly dripping down my neck
Tormenting sticky armpits
I turn to avoid feeling uncomfortable
but my feet have already become 1,000 lb. weights
supergluing me in place
‘till there’s nothing left to do
but
stumble

selfish. hypocrite. careless.
I tear myself apart with these words
but I do not deserve them
We all have problems
you do, and I’ll help
but I have my own problems
my own needs
And I need time to work on them too

people live
people love
people hate
people laugh
people cry
people breathe
people celebrate
people forget
people forgive
people move on
people reconnect
people run
people chase
people feel
people try
people jump
people move
people sigh
people lie
people die

How many times
can you sit back and allow a person to hurt you
to belittle you
swat at your pride
How many times
will you give them just ‘one more chance’
before learning people will walk out on you
trample on your heart
leave you alone
those times that meant so much
didn’t really mean anything
and your support that was so appreciated
was worthless all along
there’s a limit
it’s time to take a stand
and stop giving in
I’m my own person
and I’m through with being hurt

one little smile
that sparked one little head nod
that made us dance together
leading to you asking my name
and later my number
which is why we talked
and realized we have a lot in common
sparking us losing sleep at night to talk to each other
when you got upset, I was there
and vice versa
we laughed together
cried
debated
eventually, we fell in love
what would have happened
if you never smiled at me?

Take a look at the pictures as you rush on by
Spend a second and soak up the beauties surrounding you
Take from them what you may
A smile, brilliance, revolution, or mere stupidity
Spend just a moment with them
They don’t even have to be framed
hanging up on a wall
Your stairs can be a picture
A bird in the sky
Fallen tree
See beauty
Enjoy beauty
Don’t just move from point A to point B

People support hatred
they love watching liars and skanks
Look at reality TV
cheating
whores
fights
scandals
they’re all over the place
But when things actually become reality
We might want to look for somebody intelligent
Being president is a position of POWER
not entertainment
A negative president is not something I want
Someone who puts others down
instead of working on improving themselves
